TAMPA, Fla. — An iconic hazy pale ale from Coppertail Brewing Co. is returning just in time for the weekend at the Florida Aquarium and it supports a good cause.
Coral Haze, known for its light body, citrusy taste with a solid malt backbone, will be available for aquarium guests, officials said on social media. $1 or from every pint or $4 for every pack of the brew sold will go towards supporting the aquarium's Coral Conservation Program.
The program aims to protect the Florida Reef Tract, the world's third-largest barrier reef, according to the aquarium's official website. It reportedly stretches roughly 360 miles along the state's southeastern coast.
The Florida Aquarium says many factors are contributing to the reef's decline, including increasingly warmer and acidic water conditions and the dying off of key symbiotic species and Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD).
"The Florida Aquarium’s Coral Conservation Program is effectively addressing the coral crisis by focusing its efforts on several interconnected strategies designed to protect species that are approaching or are at risk of extinction in the wild, increase coral reproduction rates, advance coral health and restore the Florida Reef Tract," Coppertail Brewing Co. stated in a Facebook post.
SCTLD now reportedly spans nearly the entire reef and has affected 22 species of stony corals.
Aquarium guests can get their Coral Haze on draft or in four-pack cans at Coppertail Brewing now, according to officials. Wider retail availability for the brew will begin Sept. 1.
