Butterball's 'Turkey Talk-Line': How to get your turkey questions answered

Butterball has emerged as a go-to resource for Thanksgiving meal preparations.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Thanksgiving is just days away, which means families around the country will be coming together to give thanks and eat turkey.

While we all look forward to sinking our teeth into that delicious meal, it's the days and hours leading up to dinner time that can often cause stress. For whoever is in charge of the turkey, they have an extra level of responsibility.

So, what if you have turkey questions? Butterball may have the answer.

Butterball has emerged as a go-to resource for Thanksgiving meal preparations. The company's website is "stuffed" with useful information to help even the most amateur of cooks master a Thanksgiving dinner.

One of Butterball's most popular offerings is its "Turkey Talk Line."

From November to December, you can call 1-800-BUTTERBALL or text 844-877-3456 to talk with Butterball's "turkey experts." Not feeling talkative? You can also use the live chat feature from Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

Along with the Turkey Talk Line, you can also plan the "perfect portions" for your meal by inputting how many guests you'll have, if you want leftovers and how much your family typically eats.

How to thaw a turkey:

  • In the fridge: Allow at least one day of thawing for every 4 pounds of turkey and use turkey within four days after thawing
  • Cold water: Expect 30 minutes of thawing per pound of turkey

It's also important to keep food safety in mind. Outbreaks of some types of food poisoning tend to rise in November and December, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Tainted turkey, undercooked stuffing and germ-laced gravy from holiday buffets have all led to past illnesses — and even deaths — CDC investigators have found.
