Busch Gardens' newest rollercoaster ready to take riders to new heights

Starting this week, yearly pass holders will be the first to ride the new coaster. Everyone else will get the chance starting on Sunday, July 21.

TAMPA, Fla. — Ready to soar to new heights? Busch Gardens Tampa Bay says it's ready for guests to strap into its newest rollercoaster — Phoenix Rising.

It's hailed as the "most anticipated coaster" opening this year and billed as the tallest and longest inverted family coaster in North America. Phoenix Rising is Busch Gardens' 10th roller coaster and the park's first to have onboard audio and lighting, a news release said.

“We are excited to unveil Phoenix Rising to our pass members and guests,” Stewart Clark, Park President of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay said in a statement. "Our pass members are in for a special treat as they get to be among the first to ride this incredible coaster. With a height requirement of just 42 inches, it's an adventure the whole family can enjoy together."

The family-friendly inverted roller coaster started welcoming riders Wednesday, July 17 when the park opened the queue for Busch Gardens pass holders. The ride officially opens to all park guests on July 21.

The inverted roller coaster requires riders to be at least 42 inches, or 3.5 feet tall. That's about the average size of a six-year-old. The coaster is said to reach speeds of 44 miles per hour and will have a series of twists and turns.

"Aboard Phoenix Rising, riders will be immersed in an exciting, family-friendly adventure as they soar above Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s Serengeti Plain and navigate through thrilling twists and turns above the skies of Pantopia," the release said in part.
