Woman stole baby bird worth $2,400 from store in Oldsmar, owner says

Everything Birds officials in Oldsmar say this woman stole one of their baby caiques during an event Saturday morning, Sept. 7.

OLDSMAR, Fla. β€” An owner with Everything Birds, a pet supply store in Oldsmar, says a woman stole one of their baby birds Saturday morning.

In a Facebook post, Everything Birds shared a video of the woman grabbing one of the birds, a baby black-headed Caique, and stuffing it in her purse.

"We are worried that this baby will suffer because of her actions," Everything Birds stated in the Facebook post. "We are worried for its safety."

The bird, worth $2,400, is still hand-feeding and requires formula, Everything Birds owner Kirsten Cunningham told 10 Tampa Bay.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office confirmed with 10 Tampa Bay that they have launched an investigation into the alleged theft.
