KEY WEST, Fla. — A spearfisherman in the Florida Keys was airlifted after he was bitten by a shark Monday afternoon, deputies say.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office shared a post on Facebook explaining that the unidentified man was spearfishing on the reef off Key West.
A report from WPLG-TV explains he was bringing his catch back to the boat when a bull shark bit him twice in the leg.
Deputies say he was airlifted to a Miami-based hospital after being brought ashore on Stock Island.
The fisher was alert and responsive at the time of the airlift, but his immediate condition was "not clear" at the time of the sheriff's office Facebook post.
