MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — First responders jumped into action after a loggerhead sea turtle was found lodged between rocks at a beach in Martin County.
Deputies from the Martin County Sheriff's Office, officials from the county's fire rescue and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission all helped with rescue efforts on Santa Lucia Beach on Monday.
The giant mama loggerhead came ashore to lay eggs and tried to make it back to the water but got stuck, according to a post from the sheriff's office. The turtle became weak after trying to free herself.
Rescue crews are seen pulling the turtle out of the narrow hole she fell into in pictures posted by the sheriff's office. They were able to pull her out and release her back into the water without further incident, deputies said.
