'Attaboy!': K-9 with Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helps find missing child in Largo

K-9 Duke was able to help deputies find the child safe within 20 minutes.

LARGO, Fla. — A K-9 with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office earned a hero's praise after he helped deputies find a missing child within 20 minutes Friday in Largo.

In an X post, the agency said the dog, K-9 Duke was deployed with his partner, Deputy Wede to help the Largo Police Department look for the child, who had "run off from their parent."

"Largo officers worked with the parent to gather some of the child's belongings for K-9 Duke to get their scent," deputies stated in the post.

Bodycam footage shows Duke sniffing through trash and several other areas while searching for the lost child. Eventually, he and Deputy Wede made their way to a nearby parking lot.

"Within 20 minutes, the child was found hiding under a covered car, safe and unharmed," deputies said.

After safely getting the child out from under the car, deputies wasted no time in congratulating Duke for his efforts.

"Attaboy," they could be heard saying in the footage. "Good job, buddy!"
