Want to comfort dogs during the fireworks? This shelter needs fosters for July 4

The animal shelter is looking for people to take in and care for dogs during fireworks.

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — The Suncoast Humane Society needs your help keeping dogs calm during Independence Day celebrations.

The organization put out an urgent plea on Facebook asking for people interested in fostering a dog for the July 4 holiday or possibly through the weekend. They need enough volunteers to take in 23 dogs.

"A lot of the dogs get really stressed and have high anxiety being here, listening to the fireworks. It's really scary for them and they're all alone. They don't understand what's happening," foster coordinator Haley McCarthy said. "Our goal is to push everybody out and get them into a home with people to make them less scared during the fireworks."

McCarthy says while they have everything from puppies to older dogs, they typically have a harder time getting fosters for large dogs.

If you are able to take in a dog, the Human Society is asking you to come pick one up by noon on July 4. You can reach out to the Suncoast Humane Society by emailing foster@humane.org or calling (941) 474-7884.
