Florida police officers save 17 baby ducks that fell into storm drain

The two-hour mission had a happy ending when the mother duck was reunited with her babies.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Police officers in Port St. Lucie rescued 17 baby ducks that fell into a storm drain over the weekend.

Deemed "operation waddle," the officers helped fire rescue personnel by getting into the drain and lifting the ducklings out, according to a Facebook post

Officers said a person nearby had a "keen eye" and alerted emergency services when he saw the animals trapped. 

Photos showed a crew from the St. Lucie County Fire District opening the drain and getting the ducklings over the course of two hours.

Officers said the mama duck watched as the officers helped reunite her with her babies.
