JUNO BEACH, Fla. — A South Florida marine life center celebrated the Florida Panther's Stanley Cup win by naming one of their sea turtles "Stanley."
The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is a nonprofit that focuses on sea turtle research, rehabilitation and ocean conservation.
In an Instagram post, the center announced the naming and staff said they knew this young turtle would make the perfect Stanley and were just waiting on the win.
"With a relentless spirit, tremendous energy, and undeniable strength, our Stanley is much like the one on ice!" the post read.
The team commented "We love him," in response.
WPEC, the CBS affiliate in West Palm Beach, reported that he was discovered floating near a dock in Palm Beach Gardens. When he was brought to the center for treatment, they found that he was anemic and unable to dive due to an impaction. Stanley is now undergoing treatment with antibiotics, vitamins, IV fluids and nutrition.
The Florida Panthers won their first Stanley Cup Championship after they beat the Edmonton Oilers in game seven of the series on Monday night.
