CHICAGO — Chicago alligator sensation Chance the Snapper is headed to a farm in Florida, but not everyone is happy about that.
The Chicago Tribune reports the gator will be flying Thursday to his new home at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park.
Officials in Chicago had said it was unlikely Chance would remain in the Windy City. The alligator had captured headlines for a week after being spotted in a park,
Frank Robb, a.k.a. Alligator Bob, the Florida trapper who brought in Chance, called the St. Augustine park "a five-star place for alligators," adding "He'll never have any worries for the rest of his life."
Reassurances like that aren't enough for some people who started an online petition calling for Chance to be sent to a sanctuary, not a zoo.
As of Wednesday night, more than 15,000 people had signed the petition, which is addressed to Chicago park authorities.
