BRADENTON, Fla. — "I know buddy, I'm gonna get you out of there," said Sergeant Bordin after finding a dog locked in a car in Bradenton.
Sgt. Bordin found a dog in distress Monday morning when he decided to break the car window and save the dog from overheating.
The car wasn't running and the windows were cracked less than an inch, according to a Facebook post from the Bradenton Police Department.
The officers immediately pulled her from the car once they gained access and gave her water in an air-conditioned patrol car. That's when they called animal services to take custody of her and make sure she was in good health after being locked in the vehicle.
"It was 90 degrees outside when officers rescued the pup," the Facebook post said. "In 90-degree weather, the temperature inside your vehicle can reach 109 degrees in 10 minutes and 124 degrees in 30 minutes."
The pup downed nearly a liter of water before being taken for a checkup, according to BPD. Officers reported that it appeared that the dog was crying and had been in there for some time.
The police department reported through a separate Facebook post that the owner had been found, but the dog remains in the custody of animal services while officers continue the investigation.
The Bradenton Police Department made the message simple: "Do not leave your pets in cars!"
