MIAMI — Tampa Bay-area animal rescue crews are caring for 53 dogs removed from a hoarding situation in Miami.
Manatee County's Honor Animal Rescue and Underdog Rescue of Florida are working along with Desoto County's Canine Castaways to treat and house these animals.
All 53, including a two-week-old puppy, were living in one home in dangerous conditions. Rescuers tell 10 Tampa Bay they got the call earlier in the week and decided to make the drive to South Florida to pick up the animals on Dec. 13.
They say groomers worked until late into the night to get them cleaned up.
"They were all very matted, and covered in feces, and urine," Rob Oglesby, director of Development at Honor Animal Rescue, said. "One has two rear broken legs, there's a lot of skin issues, some eye issues, normal things that you would find in situations like this."
He says it could take a few weeks before they go up for adoption, but you can help cover their medical costs by donating online.
