Rain art brightens up Clearwater sidewalks

The free programs lets residents create art on the city sidewalks with stencils and water-repellent "rain paint."

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The city of Clearwater is looking to brighten up sidewalks even during the stormiest summer days.

The new Neighborhood Sidewalk Rain Art Program lets residents create art on the city sidewalks using stencils and water-repellent "rain paint." The stencils can be checked out for free through the city's neighborhood coordinator.

This special rain paint remains invisible until it gets wet, then the painted design reappears until the concrete dries again. The rain paint designs can last up to four months.

The Planning and Development Department will provide rain paint and three stencils. Artists are responsible for bringing painter's tape and a broom or a wire bristle brush.
