Sea Dog brews support for Skyway 10K

Sea Dog Brewing Company is donating Sunfish to quench the thirst of Skyway 10K runners.

St. Petersburg, FLA - When thousands of runners make their way across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on March 6th, they’ll be working plenty of muscles and working up a thirst too and that’s where a beer called Sunfish comes in.

Sea Dog Brewing Company is donating Sunfish to quench the thirst of Skyway 10K runners and all that ale is now coming off the line at the Brew Theory canning operation in Orlando.

“It’s a wheat beer. It has grapefruit with a touch of peach in it, very refreshing—perfect for after a race,” described Blue Theory brewer Bobby Baker. “It was really made for Florida and it’s outdoor events.”

The Skyway 10K benefits the Armed Forces Families Foundation. The not-for-profit helps support military families with various projects--everything from building small walking bridges to computer labs.

And that objective of helping military members and their families is what caught the attention of Sea Dog owner Fred Forsley. Forsley’s grandfather, father, and brother all served in the military, so the Skyway 10K’s mission hits close to home.

“It was really the cause, supporting military families,” said Forsley. “I think this area, Tampa Bay, supports its military family and this was a good way to show that Shipyard and Sea Dog do as well.”

Besides Sunfish, the Skyway 10K is also the inspiration for another bridge brew. Sea Dog brewer Sean Higgins says his Skyway 10K Pilsner spans all tastes.

“We wanted to keep it approachable for the average consumer and tasty of course,” Higgins said of his light-gold creation.

Even if you’re not running in the Skyway 10K, you can still support the cause by ordering a Skyway Pilsner at any Sea Dog location. While supplies last, Forsley is donating 100% of the beer’s proceeds to the Armed Forces Families Foundation.

Want in on all the fun? There are still a few VIP race registrations left and more volunteers are also needed for the Skyway 10K.

And you don’t have to be a runner to enjoy the Skyway 10K either. On Saturday, March 5th in the Tropicana Field parking lot, there’s a Music Fest and Race Expo. That’s where you can listen to live music, try out some Sea Dog beer, and shop from vendors.

If you go to the Race Expo, stop by the 10 Tampa Bay tent to say “hi” and win some free 10 Tampa Bay gear. And be sure and watch our Brightside newscast on Sunday from 7am – 9am for race highlights.
