Smokin' meat, and the competition

Owner of a South Tampa BBQ restaurant earns recognition as a semi-finalist to the BBQ Hall of Fame.

A local pit master and restaurant owner was recently named a semi-finalist in the Barbecue Hall of Fame. Lee Ann Whippen, owner of Deviled Pig, joined us via Zoom to tell us about this recent accomplishment. Each year three individuals are inducted. Prior to 2017 the individuals inducted were in one of three separate categories: business/industry, celebrity/humanitarian, and pitmaster. In 2017 the specific categories were removed and nominees were selected based on overall impact to the world of barbecue, as many of the nominees represented more than one category.
