"Leonard George and The Tigers"

A new documentary highlights the amazing life of local football legend Leonard George

In 1968, Jesuit High School's football team won the state championship, and they couldn't have done in without their star running back, Leonard George. But because George was Black, the team had to overcome adversity at a time when it was not common to see Black players on the field. From there, Leonard George went on to become the first Black player to sign with the University of Florida.

The amazing story of Leonard George is told in the new film "Leonard George and the Tigers." The quarterback for this championship team, Dr. Steve Krist, commissioned the film to be made and he joined GDL, along with Jesuit High School's Director of Development, Nick Suszynski, to tell us all about it.  You can catch a screening this Tuesday, February 8, at the Tampa Theatre. Doors open at 6:30PM, and the film begins at 7:30. For tickets go to TampaTheatre.org.
