Tracy Morgan is back in action on FX

Tracy Morgan is back in business with FX Networks
Actor Tracy Morgan arrives at The 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Governors Ball at the Los Angeles Convention Center on September 20, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

Tracy Morgan is back in business with FX Networks, which Saturday announced it would make a pilot for a potential new comedy series starring Morgan and produced by Jordan Peele of Key and Peele, among others.

The announcement, made at the Television Critics Association, describes the project thusly:

"A career criminal is released from prison after 15 long years, hoping to reintegrate into a society that long ago left him behind. Now a man whose only expertise is making grilled cheese with an iron must navigate a modern world of political correctness, Internet and self-driving cars."

Morgan had previously been set to star in an untitled comedy series for sibling FXX, from the producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but the project was put on hold after a 2014 New Jersey accident in which his car was hit by a Wal-Mart truck. The crash killed a close friend traveling with him and severely injured Morgan, who received a financial settlement. He resurfaced last year at the Emmys and as host of Saturday Night Live, but had yet to recommit to a full-time project.

The Emmy-nominated comic is best known for his SNL work and as a co-star of 30 Rock, with Tina Fey.
