Skymall has it all

Guys. GUYS. SkyMall might be coming back! Just over a month after filing for bankruptcy, our favorite purveyors of life-size Sasquatch statues and wearable massage helmets is planning its triumphant return to a seatback pocket near you. This time, though, SkyMall is taking a different approach and will feature a number of different (or, say, less ridiculous) products. Scott Jordan, the CEO of ScotteVest and the man who wants to bring SkyMall back from that inflatable nap pillow in the sky told Yahoo Travel

We're going to include items in the magazine that people actually want to buy.

Wait…what? The vision for SkyMall 2: Son of SkyMall is to make it "a curated shopping journey," which sounds awfully classy for a company that sold mail-order cat toilets. But Jordan, who is currently in negotiations to buy the magazine, wants SkyMall to become indispensable to both business and leisure travelers, allowing them not just to purchase products but experiences and apps as well. Jordan says

Say you want to buy a digital camera to use on your trip. The partnerships and technology are there to have it delivered to your hotel the next day after you arrive. The magazine could include a link to an online photography course to purchase during the flight, so you're an expert on the camera and some new techniques by the time you land.

That sounds almost…practical. Jordan has big ideas for the relaunch, including "travel options such as tours, hotel rooms, even cruises." Some of the deals for products, services or travel-focused apps would only be available within a few hours of your flight. If all goes to Jordan's plan, SkyMall will relaunch in June. Just so you know, that's close to my birthday.
