Scorpion rollercoaster at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will shut down after Labor Day

Debuting in 1980, the rollercoaster was a staple of the park for more than 44 years, according to park officials.

TAMPA, Fla. — After 44 years, the Scorpion rollercoaster at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is set to shut down after Labor Day this year, park officials said in a news release.

Parkgoers will have one last chance to ride the coaster on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, officials said.

Since debuting in 1980, "The Scorpion" became a favorite among some parkgoers for its unique design and "offering riders a thrilling experience unlike any other."

"In fact, Scorpion is the last stationary coaster of its kind in the world, making this the last chance to experience a legend," park officials stated in the release.

The coaster pulls riders through a 360-degree loop with speeds reaching up to 50 miles per hour, according to the park's website.

While the park is saying goodbye to one of its oldest attractions, they say the closure will pave the way for "exciting new future attractions" in the near future. Those new rides and attractions will reportedly be revealed soon.

Parkgoers can stay updated on Busch Gardens' new rides by following the park on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X.
