Empty nester crafts 'Prime' fashion from recycled Amazon boxes

This Wesley Chapel woman made a couture dress and coat out of Amazon Prime boxes for ARTPool's Trashion Fashion show.

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — The minute you walk into Pamela Poole’s home, you feel the creative energy throughout her house.

Poole is a mother of three college-aged children and is officially an empty nester. Tucked away in the corner of her living room is a virtual classroom where she teaches English to children in China.

Poole’s classroom is filled with flashcards, toys, stuffed animals and tons of other visual aids to help her lessons.

When Poole is not teaching, she’s creating.

“Part of your day would be empty if you didn’t find something creative to do with yourself,” she said.

Her most recent project lead her to fashion. Poole took on the challenge of creating an outfit for the 12 Annual Trashion Fashion Show, which takes place on Saturday at the ARTpool Gallery in Downtown St. Petersburg.

The idea behind the Trashion Fashion Show is to encourage the community to recycle and repurpose unwanted trash.

“I save a lot of junk, and I don’t want to throw it out until I’m sure I don’t need it,” Poole said.

Poole made a couture dress and coat from Amazon Prime boxes, which were piling up in her garage.

“I just named it ‘prime’ fashion because of Amazon Prime. It’s just a little twist on words,” she said.

Poole ended up designing a dress and an overcoat pieced together with zip ties, tape and a few stitches with her sewing machine.

“I’m going to find ways to use my creativity, whether it be in the classroom or through local events like the Trashion Fashion where I can use my creativity to get out there," she said.
