Pat Sajak's final episode of 'Wheel of Fortune' air date announced

He has been the host for more than 40 years.

TAMPA, Fla. — After more than 40 years of being the "Wheel of Fortune" host, Pat Sajak will leave after his final episode.

June 7 is when the episode is scheduled to air, according to ABC and multiple other outlets. It was taped on Friday, according to Deadline.

Sajak, 77, announced he would be stepping down from his position after the 41st season in June in an X post.

Sajak has been on the show since 1981, which features contestants guessing letters to try to fill out words and phrases to win money and prizes. His co-host, Vanna White, has been on the show since 1982. She also posted her reaction to his departure on X.

"I couldn’t be happier to have shared the stage with you for all these years with one more to come," she said. "Cheers to you."

Two weeks later, Ryan Seacrest announced he would be the new host in an Instagram post.

"I can't wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White," he said in the post.

Seacrest and Sony Pictures Television announced that he signed a multiyear deal to host the game show.

This is not his first hosting gig as he has hosted American Idol for over a decade and was on the New York-based television morning show "Live with Kelly and Ryan" for six years.

Sajak has won three Daytime Emmy Awards for outstanding game show host and received a lifetime achievement award in 2011 with "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek.

His daughter also works on the show as the social correspondent.

Sajak will also continue to be a consultant on the show for three years following his last year hosting, Suzanna Prete, executive vice president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement in June.
