"Gone With the Wind" actor Rand Brooks dies at 84

The actor who played Scarlett O’Hara’s mild-mannered first husband in "Gone With the Wind" has died.

Santa Ynez, California - The actor who played Scarlett O’Hara’s mild-mannered first husband in “Gone With the Wind” has died. Rand Brooks passed away yesterday of cancer at 84 in his California home. Brooks once said he despised the role that granted him movie immortality, saying the character of Charles Hamilton was “an asinine part.” Brooks also gained popularity as sidekick Lucky Jenkins in the Hopalong Cassidy movies, along with guest appearances on “The Lone Ranger” and “Maverick.” And he boasted he was first actor to give an on-screen kiss to a then-unknown actress named Marilyn Monroe in 1948.
