Experience the miracle of flight without leaving the ground with R.C. airplanes

SPARKS RC club got its start in the early 80s and is open to people who build, fly and sometimes crash remote-controlled airplanes.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Remote controlled airplanes, of all shapes and sizes, fly through the air at the SPARKS R.C. Flying Club in St. Pete.

"It's the affordable type of flying," said a club member. "It's expensive to fly a full scale."

The club got its start in the early 80s and is open to people who build, fly and sometimes even crash remote-controlled airplanes.

"Every day is different, said Club President, BIll Cessna. "It's unique each time you go out."

The SPARKS RC club will even teach you how to fly, starting with a flight simulator before moving on to the real thing. Flying with an instructor, a specialized control is used that allows the instructor to take control of the airplane whenever is needed.

On Saturday, May 25, Sparks RC Flying Club will be hosting an open house from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Guest can try the flight simulator or take the controls of a real R.C. airplane using the buddy box.

Membership prices vary depending on the time of year. For first time members, a lifetime initiation fee and one-year membership costs $125.
