LARGO, Fla. — SPCA Tampa Bay is waiving all pet adoption fees on Sept. 7 as part of a nationwide initiative called Clear the Shelters. That includes fees for dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, livestock and more.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at SPCA Tampa Bay, located at 9099 130th Avenue North in Largo.

All animals will be vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped. Local food truck Funnel Vision will also be on site with sweet and savory bites.

Traditionally, adoption prices for most animals range from $30-200. SPCA said the no-fee adoption event will help encourage pet adoptions and raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare.

There will be a limit of one dog introduction per party to accommodate all adopters that day. If you plan to bring your own dog for a meet and greet with a shelter pup, SPCA is encouraging each party to have at least two adults. It will ensure that everyone in the group has a chance to meet the shelter dog one-on-one before introducing the dogs.

All adopted animals must leave the shelter properly contained, so SPCA is urging anyone attending the event to come prepared with a leash and collar or carrier for your new friend. The items will also be available for purchase in the shelter's gift shop.
