Tampa hosting its 3rd-ever Red Bull Flugtag; here are road closures, event details

City leaders say around 80,000 people are expected at this year's event.

TAMPA, Fla. — You can enjoy the sights of multiple aircraft taking to the sky in Tampa as the Red Bull Flugtag is returning to the city for the third time.

City leaders say around 80,000 people are expected to watch teams fly into the air with homemade aircraft from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday outside the Tampa Convention Center.

If you plan to attend, officials are reminding you to be aware of road closures in the area beginning at 8 a.m., and recommend you to arrive early.

The road closures include areas along Bayshore Boulevard and Franklin Street, which you can see in the map below.

The West Platt Street Bridge and the Harbour Island Bridge will also be closed for the event.

Attendees can take advantage of city transportation options as parking is expected to be limited. This includes parking in Ybor City and taking the free TECO Streetcar to the Greco Plaza.  HART Buses, the DASH service, scooters or ride-sharing are also encouraged.

Tampa officials are urging those attending to not bring the following items to the event:

  • Firearms, or weapons of any kind
  • Drones
  • Framed or large backpacks
  • Alcohol or illegal drugs
  • Glass containers
  • Food
  • Pets
  • Tents
  • No illegal vending is permitted

"As always, please use extreme caution in and around the event location as it will attract tons of extremely caffeinated visitors to the area," city leaders said in a news release.

The Red Bull Flugtag was previously held in Tampa in 2008 and 2011.
