TAMPA, Fla. — A new exhibit recently opened at the Tampa Bay History Center focusing on the long history of the Black community in Tampa. And on Monday, people will get a chance to check it out for free.
"Travails and Triumphs" is meant to tell the stories of the people of African descent who have helped shape Tampa over the last 500 years.
"I've been telling people this is a Black history exhibit, but it's really a community exhibit. This is a story about all of us," curator Brad Massey said.
"We want people to come here. We want to tell them this 500-year story about how important and influential Black history was and is when it comes to Tampa Bay's history," he continued.
The Tampa Bay History Center is offering free admission on Juneteenth, which is this upcoming Monday, June 19.
If you'd like to attend, the museum asks that you reserve a free ticket online in advance. The Tampa Bay History Center, located on 801 Water Street, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Whether you want to learn more about the holiday or just want to celebrate, there are plenty of Juneteenth events happening around the bay starting this weekend. Check out our list of 2023 Juneteenth events.
