NASHVILLE, Tenn. (KTHV) - The front man of The Smashing Pumpkins has a new job to add to his illustrious alt-rock resume; president of wrestling promotion Impact Wrestling.
Impact Ventures, the parent company of the wrestling promotion announced early Friday morning that Billy Corgan would become the new President. The company is shifting former president Dixie Carter to Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer.
Corgan in his new role will oversee the daily operations of the company which includes the touring schedules and hiring of new talents.
"I believe in this company, its passionate fans, the talented roster and the dedicated staff and crew," said Corgan. "This year we have made significant strides in establishing a strong foundation for our future and will be aggressive in continuing to evolve and grow the Impact brands."
Billy Corgan is no stranger to wrestling. Before joining Impact in May of 2015 as a senior producer, Corgan was a self-professed wrestling fanatic. He also owns his own wrestling promotion Resistance Pro Wrestling which is based in Chicago.
In the summer of 2000, Billy showed up on a broadcast of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) hitting a wrestler over the head with an acoustic guitar. He also appeared at a Mexico-based promotion to take part in a storyline.
