Jim Van Fleet

I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I joined 10 News as Chief Meteorologist in December 2011. For the 10 years prior to that, I was the Weekday Morning Meteorologist for FOX 35 News in Orlando. Through the last decade, I have been right next door to Tampa, forecasting major weather events such as the Groundhog Day Tornadoes and the 3 Hurricanes of 2004. That year I became known in Central Florida for calling the eastward turn of Hurricane Charley on live television before the National Hurricane Center made adjustments to Charley's path.

I've also forecasted weather for three stations in Texas: WFAA and Texas Cable News in Dallas, was Chief Meteorologist at KXXV in Waco, and also KVII in Amarillo. I got my start in my hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma as a weather producer/storm chaser at KOTV before moving to KSWO in Lawton/Wichita Falls for my first full time On Camera position.

I've had my "Television Seal of Approval" since 1998 and am a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.

You might have heard about that other thing I've done for the last 10 years here in Florida: my band has shared the stage or toured with the likes of Taylor Swift, Zac Brown Band, Hank Williams Jr., Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, LeAnn Rimes, Montgomery Gentry, Sugarland, Dwight Yoakam, and Gretchen Wilson. For more information on where you can catch the next concert, check outwww.jimvanfleetband.com.

What I like most about Tampa Bay is getting the chance to meet YOU! I love getting to know the people on the other side of the TV. It drives me to work that much harder for you!
