LARGO, Fla. — Two people were killed after a two-car crash early Sunday morning in Largo.

At around 5:26 a.m., authorities arrived at the intersection of East Bay Drive and Starkey Road after receiving a report of a deadly crash, the Largo Police Department said in a media alert.

Police say a person driving a Mercedes Benz was speeding on East Bay Drive when two people in a Honda Civic were going south on Starkey Road.

The driver in the Mercedes Benz reportedly ran a red light and crashed into the Honda Civic.

As a result, authorities say the two people in the Honda Civic died at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes Benz was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police department says it still does not know if the Mercedes Benz driver was under the influence at the time of the crash.

The investigation of the collision remains ongoing.
