The nation has NCAA men's bracket fever and Monday night is the women's turn. The field for the ladies' tournament will be announced tonight and to kick off the exciting day the Tampa Bay Sports Commission decided to get as many people as possible to dribble to work.
"Today is Dribble to Work Day," said Rob Higgins, the commission's executive director. "You know, I love hoops. I guess it's like riding a bike. I'm trying to keep my dribble in check. It's a little tough."
Higgins is part of a team that helped bring the 2015 Women's Final Four to Tampa. It will be played at the Amalie Arena on April 5 and 7. So, what better way to get ready than switch up the morning commute?
"We've had a great cross section of different groups and organizations all participating in Dribble to Work Day from the Bucs to the Lightning to the Rays to USF Athletics," said Higgins.
All of the pro sports teams took video of them dribbling to work. Blue NCAA basketballs with the 2015 Final Four logo were seen as far away as Gainesville and Port Charlotte on Monday. Even Tampa's police chief got in on the fun.
"I used to be somebody," joked Chief Jane Castor, who played basketball at the University of Tampa. "I can't wait for everybody to get down here enjoy the weather but more importantly enjoy some basketball."
Buccaneers star wide receiver Vincent Jackson dribbled from the parking lot to his locker at One Buc Place. Steven Stamkos showed off his dribbling skills before Lightning practice and the Rays all goofed around with the basketball before a workout in Port Charlotte.
