Local sheriff's offices sought Thursday night to reassure worried residents about a Snapchat post created by a South Carolina teen that appeared to threaten another school shooting.
According to WSPA, the Spartanburg ninth-grader posted a photo of himself holding what appeared to be an assault rifle with the caption "Round 2 of Florida tomorrow."
Another student reported the post.
The student who is accused of posting the photo has been charged with disturbing schools. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.
Though the photo was posted several states away, it was enough to cause concern locally. Both Pasco and Polk County sheriff's offices posted links on Facebook to reassure local residents, and the Sarasota and Manatee County sheriff's offices said they had received 911 calls about the image from people who did not know where it came from.
