BARTOW, Fla. — The Polk County Sheriff's Office said two people are dead after a fire broke out at a mobile home in Bartow.
Deputies say dispatchers got the call around 3:45 a.m. Friday about a fire behind a home near Fighter Road and Bomber Road. The sheriff's office said an elderly couple was inside the mobile home and did not make it out.
An 81-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man who rented a room in the mobile home was killed in the fire.
A 50-year-old man who also rented a room in the mobile home got out of the fire safely. The three people who lived in the mobile home were unrelated, Polk County deputies say.
The sheriff's office is now doing two death investigations, and the state fire marshal is working to determine the cause of the fire.
