Crews identify kayaker recovered from Polk County lake

A man went out Sunday onto Lake Annie to kayak. His friends reported him missing hours later, according to the sheriff's office.

A man was found floating in Lake Annie the morning after going kayaking, deputies say.

DUNDEE, Fla. — The body of a missing kayaker was found early Monday morning in Lake Annie after his friends reported him missing just hours earlier, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

In an update, the agency identified the kayaker as 40-year-old Shane Park from Lake Wales. 

Deputies said Park went out onto the lake with his kayak around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Around 5 p.m., his friends got in a canoe to look for him when they discovered his kayak was flipped over and he was missing.

The friends reported Park missing to the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 3:30 a.m. Monday morning, the agency said.

Crews with the sheriff's office and the Polk County Fire Rescue launched boats on Lake Annie, where they found Park floating on the surface of the lake, according to a news release.

Park's body was recovered and delivered to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy. A death investigation remains ongoing.
