ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg fire crews battled smoke and fire Friday morning inside a restaurant in the Tyrone area.
Firefighters say a heat alarm called crews to Tsunami Japanese Steakhouse on Tyrone Boulevard N. When they arrived, firefighters say smoke was coming from the roof.
Crews entered the building and extinguished what they could of the fire before backing out for safety reasons and changing tactics to defensive, according to a St. Petersburg Fire Department news release.
No employees were inside the restaurant when the fire broke out.
Part of Tyrone Boulevard was closed for several hours while crews worked to extinguish the fire, but it has since reopened.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. In the meantime, the department says investigators have collected evidence, and the building will be protected by fencing provided by the owners to secure it.
