ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- For travelers in Pinellas County, getting across the bay to Tampa International Airport on public transportation is not an option – at least not until June.

That’s when the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority will launch a direct bus route to take passengers directly to the airport for just $3 each way. Riders will be able to park their cars for free at the Ulmerton Park-N-Ride before boarding the shuttle.

“We’re able to drop people off right where they can drop off their bags,” said Cassandra Borchers, chief development officer for PSTA.

Once riders reach the airport, they’d take the SkyConnect shuttle to the terminal, saving valuable time and money they’d otherwise spend on parking.

Borchers said the initial investment in this service will cost $50,000 to $100,000, with the hope of expanding in the future.
