BRANDON, Fla. — A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was hit by a car Saturday morning.
The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Providence Lakes Road south of Gornto Lake Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The girl was on a skateboard in the bicycle lane when she was hit by a red Volkswagen Passat, deputies say. She was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Deputies say the driver remained at the scene of the crash. It's not yet known whether the girl or the driver crossed the line dividing vehicle traffic from the bicycle lane.
Providences Lakes Road currently is shut down in both directions.
