Detectives checked more than 80 locations and found the two skimmers at the Texaco station in Sarasota.

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about two credit card skimmers found at a gas station earlier this week.

Personnel checked more than 80 locations and found the skimmers at the Texaco station at 6895 South Tamiami Trail.

Detectives removed the skimmers and collected them as evidence.

Customers who purchased at the Texaco are encouraged to check their bank statements for suspicious transactions.

The sheriff’s office issued the following safety tips:

  • Pay with cash inside the store when possible.
  • If you don’t have cash, use a credit card instead of a debit card. The sheriff’s office said credit cards have better fraud protection.
  • Check for signs of tampering at the pump.
  • Monitor bank statements regularly.

Anyone with information on the skimming devices is asked to call (941)861-4900 or (941)366-8477.
